To all members:

  • 2018 dues are now being taken to renew your membership in the Marshall County Hunting and Fishing Club. We are continuing to make improvements to our club.
  • We recently completed our work on the small garage at the Pistol Range.
  • We also did work on the main club house with additional concrete work and sump pump
    · 1nsfallation to help with water removal in foture flooding.
  • 2017 was a busy year for your club directors as we updated our by-laws spending several days and meetings doing so. Your directors continue to work on making our club a safer place to shoot for all of us.
  • We are now in the process of getting electric ran to your pistol range for light installation to make this an even safer place to shoot.
  • We are also in the process of building up the berm to about 9 feet high to make it safer around the garage on hill when people are working in the garage area.
  • We are also installing new drain fields that has needed done for quite some time.
  • Canopies are now installed over our gun racks and scoring benches for our members at the traps.
  • I want to thank everyone involved in helping with all the work we have done this year.
  • We urge all members to get on our website at marshallcountyhfc.com and make sure the club is open on the Saturday or Sunday in which you want to shoot.
  • We will have 4 to 5 days that the club will be closed for special events. It may save you a trip. All closed dates will be posted on the website and on the club grounds.

We ask all club members to pay your dues so we can continue to make various improvements for our club. Membership, however, will be granted on a first comebasis. The ability of our club to accommodate members, maintain equipment to keep your club looking neat.

We welcome all members to attend our meetings held on the 2nd Thursday of each month starting at 7:00 PM at the clubhouse.

In closing, thank you for your continued membership and support. The Marshall County Hunting and Fishing Club's main source of operating revenue is your dues. Please pay them promptly, so that you may continue to enjoy membership privileges.
________________________________

Another year has passed and it's time to renew your membership in the Marshall County Hunting and Fishing Club. As you may be aware, 2016 was an eventful year for the club.
There were several changes in our club this year. Below are some of our highlights for 2016:

  • We had a great Hall of Fame Shoot in May. 60 shooters attended. Everyone was impressed with fill[ facility.
  • We have the Hall of Fame Shoot June 10th and June 11th in 2017. Thanks to all who help make this shoot a success.
  • Complete new wiring system in main clubhouse.
  • Maintained active support of related organizations: NRA, Friends of the NRA (WV and Ohio Chapters), ATA, WVATA, CMP, WV Bow Hunters Association and WV Wildlife Federation.
  • Successful "Jake's Day" promoting youth involvement. Greg Miller, Randy Foster and Staff did a great job.
  • Increasing numbers at our pistol range.
  • Increase in Registered and Practice trap Shooting. Signed up 10 new ATA members.
  • We are now a charter organization for the Boy Scouts of America promoting more youth involvement in our club.
  • 4-H is now using our facility weekly in shooting trap. Again getting our younger kids involved in our facilities.
  • 4-H Shooting sports held a shoot in August with 27 shooters attending. Everyone had a good time and the food was great. Charity Carroll and staff did a super job.
  • The Board of Directors in your club are finding ways to make your club more efficient and more enjoyable for our members. We all try to make our club as safe as possible when shooting any weapon at our facility. Keep gun safety your TOP priority at all times.
  • We urge all members to get on our website at marshallcountyhfc.com and make sure the club is open on the Saturday or Sunday in which you want to shoot.
  • We will have 4 or 5 days the club will be closed for special events. It may save you a tnp. All closed dates will be posted on the web and on the club grounds.
  • In 2016 our membership totaled 880 members with a cap of 900. You will find a membership application card with this news letter that must be filled out and sent back with 2017 dues.
  • Because of strict liability insurance rules now in place we must file all updated applications. WE NEED YOUR HELP
  • The Board of Directors are working on putting in place various committees, such as; Rifle Range Committee, Archery Committee in 2017, Pistol Range Committee, Practice Trap Committee, Building Committee and Registered Shoot Committee
  • If any club members would like to chair one of these committees or help on one, please call one of the directors.
  • Out of 880 members we have about 10 people doing all of the work. I ask each and every one of you, what is right about that? Our average age for these 10 members is 67 years old. In other words a 67 year old member is doing the work for 90 members that do nothing but use our facility and leave.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

  • If you could give your club just an hour or two of your time every once in a while you would be taking the work load off the members that are getting older everyday.
  • We have ideas to continue to grow our club but we need your help.
  • The board of directors are doing everything they can to keep your dues at a minimum but if we cannot get people to help keep our grounds up, we will have to hire the work done and your dues will more than double.
  • Any ideas you may have to help better our facility please bring to our meeting for discussion.
All members, both stockholders and associate members, must pay 2017 dues by February 28th before shooting at our club.

Membership dues will remain the same as 2016. Stockholders dues will be $30.00 for 2017. Associates dues will be $40.00 for 2017.

Please keep in mind our dues pay our increasing insurances, pay our utility bills, and maintenance cost_s, both real and projected. Your dues are also used to buy diesel fuel for our tractors and propane we use throughout the year, repair and maintain equipment to keep your club looking neat.

We ask all club members to pay your dues so we can continue to make various improvements for our club.

2017 membership will be capped. The limits have been set to accommodate current membership numbers. Membership, however, will be granted on a first come basis. The ability of our club to accommodate members, maintain our facility and IRS policies regarding our non-profit status were the principal drivers in determining these changes.

Stockholders will find an enclosed ballot for election of three directors to serve a three-year term. Please read and understand your ballot before submitting it to be tallied. If you have any questions, contact any current director for clarification. A self-addressed envelope is enclosed for use by both stockholders and associate members to return their dues and ballot (if applicable) directly to our secretary. You may also join by personally contacting any director. Membership cards will be mailed to your home if a self addressed stamped envelope is provided in your correspondence. Remember membership is now capped and the deadline remains February 28th, 2017.

• We welcome all members to attend our meetings held on the 2nd Thursday of each month starting at 7:00 PM at the clubhouse.

In closing, thank you foror your continued membership and support. The Marshall County Hunting and Fishing Club's main source of operating revenue is your dues. Please pay them promptly, so that you may continue to enjoy membership privileges. Meetings are the second Thursday of every month at 7PM in the clubhouse. Attendance is open to all members. Hope to see you at meeting and/or enjoying your club's facilities.

Sincerely,
Larry Lilley Secretary/ Treasurer
Marshall County Hunting and Fishing Club

2013 WVHOF Shoot

The 8th Annual WV Hall of Fame Shoot at Marshall County Hunting & Fishing Club UPDATED!!, click for story

2013 WVHOF Shoot scores

THANK YOU FROM YOUR V.P. LARRY LILLEY
The West Virginia Hall of Fame Shoot was a huge success, thanks to all of you.  When I went to bed Friday night, May 24th, I tossed and turned and lay awake all night wondering what I got myself into!

The West Virginia Amateur Trap Shooting Association talked me into hosting the 8th annual West Virginia Hall of Fame Shoot at our club.  After getting the Ok by our board of directors it was now our responsibility to host this shoot.  A contract was signed between me and the WV ATA with special guidelines to be followed.

Our club hosted this shoot in 2001, 2002, and 2003.  When I looked back at those shoots and saw how many people were involved in helping run the event, I got nervous.  I kept asking myself will the guys and gals that said they would help really show up for this two day event?  When I arrived at the club at 6:00 am on Saturday morning, I started setting out speakers for our shoot.  I looked around at our club and our facility looked great.

Our club grounds looked as neat as I ever remember seeing it.  With all the work we had done in the few short months before had really paid off for our club.  Soon after our other board members and help started pouring in to set things up, I began to feel a lot better than I did Friday evening.  We had more help than I can ever remember having for a shoot at our club.

We had two great days and this shoot went as well as any shoot that I’ve ever attended.  Shooters from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia attended and could not believe how nice our club was.  Many shooters said we ran a fantastic shoot and would be back.  Our club shooters won five trophies and represented our club well.

When I left our club at 9:30 pm Sunday night, I felt great about what WE had accomplished as club members!
I want to thank the following people for helping with this Hall of Fame Shoot.  Without your help this event could not have been possible.

2013 Grounds Keeping
Spring is almost here and we again need members help keeping our grounds mowed, trimmed and looking good.  Director Larry Lilley will be spearheading this year’s efforts.  He has many ideas for the grounds and needs your help.  If you are able to mow, trim, plant flowers, paint, or do any other tasks in the upkeep of our club please contact him at (304)-845-8604.  Any ideas and help are welcome.  Thanks to you, the members, our club has been well maintained and ready for use each year.

Additional information
It was established at the April club meeting that grounds keeping work days will be every Monday beginning at 11am.  If rained out, outside work will be accomplished the following Tuesday.  Again, Larry Lilley is leading these efforts.  Feel free to contact him with any questions.
Members are needed to mow, trim, paint etc…  The club will provide all necessary equipment/materials.  All members are welcome.  Please join the group and use your skills keeping our club looking great.

Roofing and Restroom Updates
During March and April 2013 the club will be undertaking significant renovations to our restrooms and buildings roofing.   The projects are being funded in their entirety by membership dues for 2013.

Both restrooms are receiving new fixtures, hot water, windows and related painting/trim.

The Club House, Breezeway, Kitchen, Small Garage, Outhouse, and both Garages on the hill are being re-roofed using high quality metal materials.  Additionally, the Club House Porch and Breezeway ceilings will be covered with metal.  You will notice the front of the Club House roof will have a new continuous pitch.  This is being done to allow better runoff.  The porch roof is also being extended to the end of the breezeway.

Marshall County Hunting & Fishing Club Receives $5000 Grant from the ATA
The Marshall County Hunting and Fishing Club has received a $5000 grant from the ATA to purchase a new PAT Trap.

For 2012, seven clubs in the US and Canada were successful applicants and shared a total of $25,000 in grant awards.  Lynn Gipson, ATA Executive Director, said the process was extremely competitive this year.  He also noted our State ATA Delegate, Mark Isner (WV State Delegate) and Terry Roush, ATA Executive Committee Vice-President’s efforts in securing this funding.

The Club’s Directors opted for the wobble feature to be included with the purchase.  The new trap arrived October 2, 2012 from CAC Associates in Ebensburg, PA.  Club Director Larry Lilley made necessary modifications to the trap’s base and it is now ready for use.  Thanks to the considerable efforts of the directors, all five trap houses now have fully functioning PAT Traps.

Lead Reclamation Complete
Word of mouth brought Windmill Enterprises owner, Arjan VanBull to the club in August 2012.  He did some initial soil sampling and determined our field worthy of reclamation efforts.  The Club directors researched Windmill’s background in the business and contacted other clubs for references.  Upon receiving positive reviews and negotiating a favorable contract, an agreement was signed in September.

Windmill began work almost immediately.  Weather disrupted their efforts a few days, but they stayed diligent and completed the work on schedule.  In all 110,000 pounds of lead was recovered, shipped, and sold to Mayco Industries.  Payment to the club based on the negotiated percentage totaled $19,980, which was received earlier than expected.

A thank you is owed to members for their patience during the reclamation time.  Although the effort disrupted normal club use for three weeks, as a whole it was a worthwhile undertaking.  Grass was sewn in the affected areas is growing nicely.  The funds received will be utilized to repair and update our buildings.  Members input and assistance is welcome.  If you have specific ideas or can lend a hand, please contact one of the Directors.

Marshall County Hunting & Fishing Club to Host the 2013 WVATA Hall of Fame Shoot
The Marshall County Hunting and Fishing Club has entered into a contract with the WVATA to host the 2013 WVATA Hall of Fame Shoot.  The event will take place Saturday and Sunday, May 25 &26 , 2013.

The 2012 WVHOF Shoot was held at the Brooke County Sportsman’s and Farmers Club.  More than fifty shooters attended with their friends and family.  The 2012 event was very successful as everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather, great targets, and fine company.

Larry Lilley, Club Chairman for the 2013 Event is confident the upcoming spring event will be an even bigger success.  He believes the positive momentum the Brooke County Facility provided will be built upon and anticipates more shooters in attendance.  Help is needed to bring about the anticipated success.  Please contact Larry if you can offer any assistance with preparations, scoring, loading, or kitchen functions.
